Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to have architectural plans prepared before I get in touch with you?
We strongly recommend that you don't make any plans just yet. We believe it's best to involve our team in the entire process, right from the start to the finish. When you choose to work with Bidwill Design & Build you'll have the advantage of collaborating with an architectural designer, spatial & interior designer, planner, builder and landscaper. This ensures that all aspects of your project are taken into consideration. Our team will work together to design your project and provide you with an estimate for the build simultaneously. This approach makes sure that your wish list stays within your budget. We firmly believe that our approach is much better than creating a unique design, only to realise later during the builder's cost assessment that it exceeds your budget. With our one-stop-shop solution, we can handle everything from developing the initial design vision to overseeing the completed build.
How long will my project take to complete?
Ultimately, the timing for your project depends on its scope. As a general guideline, we like to kick things off with a phone call (30 min free chat) to understand your requirements better. After that, we can schedule a consultation, usually within the next two weeks based on availability, to visit your site and discuss the project in more detail. If any council approvals are needed, that might extend the timeframe, but we'll have a clearer idea after the consultation. It's important to mention that our Design and Build consultations do have a small cost associated with them, as they involve multiple team members.
How do I prepare for our scheduled call?
Just make sure you're in a quiet space and have set aside uninterrupted time to chat. It might be helpful to jot down some questions you have for us. Also, think about what you are looking to achieve with your project. Is it a renovation to create more living space for your growing family? Or are you planning an architectural new build? It would be helpful to have an idea of your preferred timeline and budget as well. How much are you allocating to this project? We'll go over all of these points during our call and then discuss them in greater detail if you decide to book a consultation.
How do I arrange a time for you to call and discuss the project?
If you'd like to get in touch with us, the first step is to reach out via our enquiry form. Once we receive your inquiry, we'll send you some important information. After you've had a chance to read this, if you still believe that we could be a good match for your project, we can schedule a call to delve deeper into the details and arrange a convenient time to talk.
Do you charge for the initial consultation?
Our Design and Build consultations provide a comprehensive and collaborative experience with our team visiting the project site or a through meeting at our office. It's important to note that these consultations come with a cost, reflecting the value of the expertise and insights you'll gain.
Do you do projects outside of Matakana?
Absolutely! We're based in Matakana, about an hour's drive north of Auckland City. But don't be shy – reach out, even if your project is located elsewhere. You never know, it might be a perfect fit. So, drop us a line right [here] (CHRIS feasibility)
Can you help me with just the building service?
We offer a complete design and construction service, taking care of 99% of our projects in-house, from start to finish. If you have already obtained plans from your architect or draftsperson, we are more than happy to assess them from a construction standpoint. However, it's important to note that all our building projects start with an interior design phase, regardless of existing architectural plans. This approach ensures a smoother and more unified construction process.
Can you help with the Council or Resource consent phase?
Absolutely! We've got you covered. Our team can take care of all the details and paperwork involved in obtaining council or resource consent.
Do you do new builds or just renovations?
In a nutshell, we do both. However, the decision to take on a job depends on the nature of the project and how well it aligns with our company values. Our brand philosophy is centered around restoring, reusing, and enhancing the existing architecture of a home. We don't believe in tearing down a perfectly good house without a good reason and replacing it with something that doesn't contribute to the community or the environment. On the other hand, we are passionate about constructing new homes that prioritise sustainability and prioritise healthy building practices.
Can you do everything to design AND build my house?
We'd love to be your “one stop shop” and our process works best when you involve us right from the start of your project. That way, we can join forces with you, architectural designer, interior designer, and builder, and ensure that we're all on the same page right from the get-go. So, don't hesitate to get in touch with us as your first step in the process!
Can I just utilise your interior or landscape design services?
Absolutely, you're welcome to do so. For all our construction projects, the interior design phase is an integral part of the process. If you're specifically looking for guidance from our interior or landscape designers, do make an appointment with our design team.
What’s your sustainability policy?
At Bidwill, we strongly believe in minimising our impact on the environment and creating conscious spaces for our clients. We follow the principle of restoring existing homes instead of demolishing and building from scratch. Our approach involves reusing and revitalising materials whenever possible, and we prioritise partnerships with New Zealand suppliers who offer eco-friendly materials. Moreover, our office practices are entirely paperless, as all our systems are online and cloud-based. This enables our team and contractors to work efficiently from various locations, significantly reducing the need for unnecessary travel.
